Friedolin Deisenhammer

Biography
1939 – Friedolin Deisenhammer was born in Vöcklabruck, Upper Austria, into a family of academics. His father and brothers were doctors, while his mother was a classically trained singer.
1958 – After overcoming educational challenges, Deisenhammer successfully applied to the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna.
1964 – He completed his diploma in painting under the mentorship of R.C. Andersen and was awarded the Art Educator’s Prize. During this time, he also qualified as a teacher in art, crafts, and history, allowing him to secure a position at a secondary school.
1966 – After early teaching positions in Laa an der Thaya and Krems, Deisenhammer moved to Vienna.
1968 – Deisenhammer relocated to Istanbul, where he lived and worked with his family until 1978, teaching at St. George's College. The vibrant colors and atmosphere of the Orient greatly influenced his artistic style, adding new dimensions to his work, which had previously focused on the Attersee landscapes and Vienna's urban environment.
1978 onwards – Inspired by his time abroad, Deisenhammer developed a passion for travel, which became a defining element of his art. He painted on-site in various locations, including Venice, Hamburg, Istanbul, Chicago, Paris, Rome, Anatolia, Spain, Egypt, and Tuscany. His works often depict rooftops, streetscapes, bridges, and railways, capturing the essence of each place.
1987 – Deisenhammer was awarded the prestigious Theodor Körner Prize for his artistic achievements.
His works have been featured in numerous exhibitions both in Austria and internationally, reflecting his diverse influences and a lifelong dedication to capturing the world through art.

Statement
"My art is born from the places I visit, the sounds I hear, and the colors that surround me. Whether standing under the bright sun, amidst the hum of cicadas, or in the chaos of urban streets, I seek to capture the essence of life as it unfolds before me.
Travel has shaped my perspective as an artist. From the serene landscapes of Austria to the vibrant colors of the Orient and the bustling cities of the world, each location tells its own story. Painting on-site allows me to connect deeply with the environment, transforming fleeting moments into lasting impressions on canvas.
Art, to me, is not about perfection but about truth — the truth of a place, a moment, and the emotions it evokes. This is what I strive to convey in my work."
