Tobias Reinthaller

Alongside his main profession as an actor, Tobias Reinthaller dedicates himself to his great passion – painting and drawing. Inspired by his favorite characters from comics and cartoons of pop culture, the self-taught artist creates new perspectives, distorts familiar characters beyond recognition, and places them in unusual, surprising viewpoints. The interplay of pop-cultural references and their deliberate decontextualization play a central role in his work.

Tobias Reinthaller works primarily with acrylic paints and spray paint. He also incorporates various materials into his works, such as scratch-off and tear-off tickets, as well as film and street posters. By coating his pieces with epoxy resin, he often gives them a distinctive, glossy depth and a characteristic look.

Biography

Tobias Reinthaller, born in Vienna in 1992, completed his acting training at the Krauss Drama School in Vienna after graduating from high school. Following his graduation in 2015, he had engagements at the Baden Theatre, the Akzent Theatre, and the Reichenau Festival. Since 2017, Tobias Reinthaller has been a permanent member of the ensemble at the Theater in der Josefstadt.

Statement

"My first painting arose from the desire to enrich my apartment with my own art. I began to paint pictures that I myself had wanted – works that reflect my personal taste and my longings. From this developed a passion in which my pure joy of life is expressed. The figures in my works give me the wonderful feeling of returning to the carefree time of my happy childhood."
