Joshua 英哲 Maurer

Joshua Maurer was born and raised in Munich, Germany. He developed his artistic practice outside of a classical academic art education. After graduating from high school, he moved to Vienna to study International Business Administration with Chinese at the Vienna University of Economics and Business. Alongside his studies, he taught himself graphic design, gradually acquired proficiency in various digital design programs, and eventually worked as a graphic designer. In this role, he developed visual concepts and corporate designs for professional clients. This self-directed career path laid the foundation for his understanding of color, composition, and visual storytelling.

The transition to painting arose from the same curiosity and initiative that had already characterized his work in graphic design. Largely self-taught, Joshua began working with acrylics on canvas, developing a distinctive visual language over time. Today, he lives and works in Vienna. In his works, he combines his background in visual communication with his international perspective and his ongoing interest in societal developments. At the heart of his constantly growing œuvre are the recurring figuresSociaandSocius.
