ARTIST ARTRETHOUGHT
PORTRAIT 01
Charlotte Jeroma

Charlotte Jeroma

works with watercolor at the intersection of emotion, perception, and human connection. In her ongoing series "Sentient Beings Who Think," she makes inner movements visible and translates emotional experiences into atmospheric pictorial spaces.

With flowing color gradients, transparency, and multi-layered compositions, she explores what moves people – from individual sensations to the invisible connections between people. Her works arise from intense engagement, encounter, and the attempt to give the invisible its own visual language.

02 BIOGRAPHY

Biography

Learn about the history and artistic journey behind this position.

Charlotte Jeroma (*1993) works in the medium of watercolor and dedicates her artistic practice to exploring human inner worlds. Her works move between emotional perception, memory, and interpersonal experience. She is particularly interested in how sensations arise, change, and influence our relationship to ourselves and to other people.

With the ongoing series of works"Feelers who Think"Jeroma develops a multifaceted dialogue between image, feeling, and language. The artist approaches emotions not as fixed states, but as fluid spaces of experience in which personal history, bodily experience, and social relationships are interconnected.

Her watercolors are characterized by a sensitive combination of transparency, depth, and painterly openness. Layers, transitions, and atmospheric densities become a visual equivalent of inner processes. The water in watercolor is not only understood as a technical basis, but as an active element of the pictorial event – controllable and at the same time open to chance.

The beginning of the series marks an intensive engagement with individual emotional states. In collaboration and exchange with the authors Dr. Frick-Baer and Frick, who wrote the"ABC of Feelings"a connection was created between artistic practice and psychological observation. This encounter shaped the preoccupation with the question of how feelings can be perceived, described, and made visible.

In the further course of her work, Charlotte Jeroma increasingly focuses on the dynamic between different sensations and their influence on relationships. The starting point for new works are personal encounters and conversations, from which painterly processes develop. This creates images that not only reflect individual experiences, but also explore the complex spaces between people.

The creation process of her works is characterized by slowness, attentiveness, and a continuous approximation. For Jeroma, painting means absorbing experiences, processing them, and giving them their own form of communication.
